The last four weeks of Term 1 and the first two weeks of Term 2 we enjoyed our badminton lessons with Caleb. He has been a great teacher and we will keep up the good practice.

A visitor from Denmark

On Thursday, 12 March we had a danish PhD student, Mikkel Stovgaard, staying with us for the school day. He has been in New Zealand for two months to research and was keen to see some real Kiwi kids in action. We hope he had a very nice day with us and sent him off with some self-made woven harakeke flowers. Have a good trip back to Denmark, Mikkel! We hope the flowers survive the flight.

People saver course by Red Cross

On Tuesday, 10 March Room 2 attended a first aid course run by the Red Cross. We learnt heaps and had great fun.

Here we are sending for help.

We learn about how to check if someone is still breathing.

Learning the recovery position.

How poison can enter the body.

Learning the order of actions for helping someone who is choking.

Learning to help someone who is bleeding heavily.

Proud to be certified People Savers.

This year we are thriving to reduce the rubbish in our lunchboxes. We had a look the other day and discovered some lunchboxes with very little or no rubbish and others full of packaging. We are trying to inspire everyone that the litter less lunchbox is the way to go and reduce our carbon footprint on this planet.

Today we made "Powerbars" with our home grown bananas.

Every student learnt how easy it is to create your own muesli bar which you can cut to size and freeze. It just needs to be added to your lunchbox. If the lunchbox has separate compartments you don't need extra wrapping.
Our Powerbar also doesn't contain any added sugar (just a few dark chocolate chips).

Working on the recipe.
We are learning to write instructions.
Setting out utensils.

Mashing the bananas.

Finished! Just needs cutting.

We are taking our recipes and finished product home for tasting with our families.
We are reusing  the containers for more yummy, nutritious, litter less food creations.
